HOUMA, Louisiana — State transportation officials say the Houma Navigation Canal Bridge will be closed for repairs starting Monday.

The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1mR5XeP) vehicles will not be permitted to cross from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and then again July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1.

The bridge also will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 27-28 and Aug. 2-3.

The $9.9 million project includes repairs on electrical and mechanical structures, installation of hydraulic cylinders and traffic barriers and gates.

A new operator's house and fender system were completed last year.

The canal provides a channel linking the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico.
