Dutch league leader PSV cruises to 5-1 win over 10-man Utrecht to stay top of Eredivisie

AMSTERDAM — PSV Eindhoven cruised to a 5-1 victory over 10-man Utrecht on Sunday to maintain its four-point lead over defending champion Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie after 10 rounds.

Defender Mark van der Maarel was sent off for the home team after collecting his second yellow card in the 22nd minute for a foul in the penalty area, 10 minutes after Adam Maher had put PSV ahead. Memphis Depay scored from the spot to double the lead and effectively kill off the match and Jorrit Hendrix made it 3-0 three minutes later.

Ruud Boymans pulled a goal back for Utrecht in the second half before a Christian Kum own goal and Georginio Wijnaldum strike completed the scoring.

Ajax beat Go Ahead Eagles 3-1 Saturday to stay second.
