Share/Save/Bookmark

AUGUSTA, Georgia — Police in Richmond County are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a minivan.

Richmond County sheriff's deputies say the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Mike Padgett Highway.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said 61-year-old John Mark McPherson was pushing a lawnmower, wearing dark clothes and not using a crosswalk. Sheriff's officials say he was struck by a blue minivan traveling northbound on the highway.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1mjnSZT) that McPherson is the fifth pedestrian to be hit - and the fourth to die - on Richmond County roads since April 10.
