ORLANDO, Florida — Hamp Cheevers had two catches for 102 yards and a touchdown as Trenton defeated Blountstown 14-0 in the Florida Class 1A football championship game.
Trenton (12-1) shut down Blountstown's option offense, holding the Tigers to just 79 yards on 43 carries.
Cheevers' first catch of the game was a 54-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Smith. He would add a 48-yard catch-and-run later in the half.
Blountstown (13-1) looked to their quarterback platoon of Dylan Lee and Hunter Jordan to make a difference but the quarterbacks combined to go 4 of 11 for 63 yards and two interceptions.
In the third quarter Lee was intercepted by Michael Smith, who returned it 35 yards for a touchdown to give Trenton a 14-0 lead.
Kade Rogers led the defensive charge for Trenton with 10 tackles, six tackles for loss and a sack.
