LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Councilman Paul Krekorian wants to use revenue from digital billboards to pay for city services, including aiding the homeless.
A letter sent Thursday by Krekorian urges the city's Planning Commission to consider allowing digital billboards on city-owned property. He estimates the income from the advertising displays could generate tens of millions of dollars.
The Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1LRCZ7l) Los Angeles officials are weighing a new sign policy, which would govern the placement of digital displays around the city.
Krekorian says the funds could help deal with the homeless crisis, as well as pay for neighborhood services like street resurfacing, sidewalk repair and tree trimming.
This week city officials announced they plan to declare a state of emergency on homelessness and spend $100 million to eradicate it.
