Gun at Scotlandville High School; 1 arrested


SCOTLANDVILLE, Louisiana — Baton Rouge Police say a gun was found at Scotlandville High School and an 18-year-old student has been arrested.

WAFB-TV reports ( ) police received a call saying 18-year-old Jarreau Simmons forced his mother at gunpoint to drive him to the high school because he was upset about his dismissal from the band.

Responding officers took Simmons into custody after a short foot pursuit. The handgun was found in the school's band room.

No injuries were reported.

Simmons was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree kidnapping, carrying a firearm by student on school property, terrorizing and illegal carrying of a weapon.

It was unknown whether Simmons has an attorney who could comment on the case.
