3 more years: Hambletonian extends contract at Meadowlands

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — The Hambletonian trotting race will remain at the Meadowlands Racetrack through 2018.

The Hambletonian Society and track extended the existing contract three additional years. The Meadowlands has hosted the event since 1981.

The $1.2 million renewal takes place Aug. 3.

The Hambletonian, first contested in 1926, is part of the Trotting Triple Crown for 3-year-olds. Before coming to the Meadowlands, the Hambletonian was presented at five venues, including a 25-year run at the fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois, that concluded in 1980.
