Man struck, killed by light-rail train in Northern California; incident under investigation

SAN JOSE, California — Authorities say they're investigating the death of a man struck and killed by a light-rail train in San Jose.

Valley Transportation Authority spokeswoman Brandi Childress told KTVU-TV on Friday ( ) that the train was entering a gated crossing when it hit the pedestrian. She said it appears the warning bells and flashing lights at the crossing were all working.

Childress says the train was travelling about 35 mph and that no passengers were onboard at the time of the incident.

Authorities say they're trying to determine if the death was an accident or a suicide.

Childress says officials are looking at video from the train to assist in the investigation.
