Legislature selects Sweaney to replace Buxton on University of Vermont board

Share/Save/Bookmark

MONTPELIER, Vermont — The University of Vermont Board of Trustees will include a new member next time it meets.

A joint session of the Vermont Legislature elected Rep. Donna Sweaney (SWAY-nee) of Windsor to replace Rep. Sarah Buxton of Tunbridge, who resigned from the board earlier this year.

Sweaney, chairwoman of the House Government Operations Committee and a retired educator, was elected without opposition to one of the nine legislative seats on the UVM board.

Buxton says she left because UVM has been in talks with the Vermont Law School, which is located in South Royalton in Buxton's district, about possible collaboration. Buxton says if merger talks arose, she likely would be conflicted between duties as a university trustee and representing her district.
