Wichita man sentenced to 10 years on federal bank robbery charges

WICHITA, Kansas — A 41-year-old Wichita man has been sentenced to 10 years for robbing a bank in Wichita.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Tuesday in a release that Christopher A. Vangessel was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery.

Grissom says Vangessel admitted to robbing a UMB Bank branch on Feb. 28, 2012, when he gave a teller a note demanding money.

A parole officer identified Vangessel after authorities released surveillance photos taken during the robbery.
