Juneau names new police chief; Bryce Johnson will succeed Greg Browning, who is retiring

JUNEAU, Alaska — City officials in Juneau have picked a new police chief.

The Juneau Empire reports (http://bit.ly/16hOwgS ) Bryce Johnson of the Salt Lake City Police Department will succeed Greg Browning, who is retiring.

The city manager Kim Kiefer's office announced the new hire Wednesday.

Kiefer says Johnson has been with the police department in Salt Lake City since 1992, working his way to assistant bureau commander.

She says he has an impressive law enforcement background and was favored in the selection process by current Juneau police department staff.

Johnson is set to officially begin June 3.
