CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A new sentencing hearing for former Hamilton County Sheriff Billy Long has resulted in a three-year reduction in time.
The hearing Friday came after a federal appeals court ordered in January that Long should be resentenced because there was a mistake in calculating his 14-year sentence.
Long's attorney, Jerry Summers, told The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/KuW5m8) that he may appeal the 11-year sentence depending on his client's wishes.
Long has been in custody since pleading guilty in May 2008 to extortion, money laundering, providing a firearm to a felon and cocaine possession.
