ATLANTA — The jobless rate in metro Atlanta has fallen to 7 percent.

That's down from 7.3 percent in September.

The new unemployment rate for October was announced Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The 7 percent October jobless rate is also down from 7.6 from October 2013.

State labor officials say 18,800 jobs were added in metro Atlanta in October, boosting the total number of jobs to 2.49 million.

Elsewhere in Georgia, metro Athens had the lowest jobless rate among local areas at 5.4 percent.

The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest rate at 9.3 percent.

The metro area unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted.
