RAPID CITY, South Dakota — Jurors in Rapid City have convicted a Hot Springs man of killing his mother and hiding her body three years ago.

Prosecutors say 28-year-old Matthew Tornquist was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder and grand theft. The murder count carries a mandatory life sentence and grand theft has a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

The jury found that he killed 56-year-old Catherine Tornquist in October 2011 in Fall River County, stole money from her and hid her body, which has not been found even after more than 50 searches.
