EUGENE, Oregon — Eugene police arrested a high school baseball coach accused of trying to communicate sexually online with a minor.

The Register-Guard newspaper reports (http://is.gd/j0Z2HG ) that 25-year-old Garrett Nevergold was charged Wednesday with first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. He is an assistant baseball coach at Creswell High School.

Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin says Nevergold was one of two men caught in an online sting operation in which a detective posed as a girl 15 years old or younger.

Creswell School District Superintendent Todd Hamilton says Nevergold has been suspended from his coaching position. He is not a classroom teacher.
