PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say two men brandishing silver handguns bound and robbed several Temple University students during a home invasion in their off-campus residence.

Police say two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and bandanas on their face followed a 20-year-old student into his residence near the university's north Philadelphia campus at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officials said at least six occupants were bound with zip-ties. A 20-year-old student who was pistol-whipped was treated at a hospital for a cut and bruises.

Authorities say the two men made off with cellphones and a safe, the contents of which were not disclosed.

Temple University sent an alert out to students Sunday night about robbery. The school said Monday that the preliminary police investigation indicates that "this likely was not a random act."
