LITHONIA, Georgia — Authorities say three people were shot in metro Atlanta in what police believe was an attempted robbery.

CBS Atlanta reports (http://bit.ly/1mPUgFl) that the shooting happened early Tuesday morning on Browns Mill Ferry Drive in the Lithonia area northeast of Atlanta.

DeKalb County police Sgt. Steven Dean said a neighbor called 911 around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday to report hearing numerous gunshots.

Police then found three men shot. They were inside and outside of a car parked in the middle of the road. Two people were in critical condition; a third person was in stable condition.

Dean said early Tuesday that police did not yet know the full story of how the shooting occurred and were continuing to investigate.
