Large debris fire sends plumes of black smoke over northeast Tacoma, Washington


TACOMA, Washington — A fire that sent plumes of black smoke over northeast Tacoma, Washington, burned tires, brush, old vehicles and outbuildings Monday evening.

The News Tribune reports ( ) that Tacoma Fire spokesman Joe Meinecke says one person was taken to a hospital as a precaution but no one was seriously injured. No homes were in danger. The fire was controlled shortly after 7 p.m. after burning across about two acres.

The cause wasn't immediately determined.
