NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada — One person was killed, and a police officer was wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in North Las Vegas.

Authorities say a police officer was performing a traffic stop around 11 p.m. near Carey Avenue and Commerce Street. The driver pulled in to a driveway in the 700 block of Miller Avenue and fled on foot.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1rgtUKf) that police Sgt. Chrissie Coon says two officers pursued and fired their weapons.

Coon says one officer was shot multiple times and was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver who fled was shot and died at the scene.

According to police policy, the officers' names will be released 48 hours after the incident.
