FREEPORT, New York — Police on Long Island say a 16-year-old girl has been arrested on manslaughter and assault charges following the fatal stabbing of another teenage girl.

Police say Jasmine Copeland was involved in an argument with two other teenage girls outside her home in Freeport just after 8 p.m. Saturday when she took out a knife and stabbed them.

Police say one of the victims, 17-year-old Abigail Thomas, was wounded in the back and pronounced dead at a hospital.

The other victim, a 16-year-old girl, was treated and released for a chest wound.

Police say a 9-year-old girl was also at the scene but was not injured.

It wasn't clear if Copeland had a lawyer.
