Police: Driver may have fallen asleep before fatal crash with bus in Nashville


NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Police say that a driver has been killed after his vehicle crashed with a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus in Nashville.

The Tennessean reports ( ) that the driver's 2004 Toyota crossed into the lanes of opposing traffic on Wednesday morning and the bus hit the vehicle head on. Police said investigators were able to look at video from the bus, and it showed that the Toyota crossed all lanes of traffic. Authorities speculated that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel before the crash.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was not identified.

Authorities say the bus driver was not injured and one of five passengers on the bus was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
