Man accused of bringing girlfriend's body to hospital charged with second degree murder

SEATTLE — A Washington state man who police say drove his girlfriend's body to a psychiatric hospital and told staff he killed her has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police say 29-year-old Attila Richards told employees at Western State Hospital on Sunday that he had killed his girlfriend and needed help. He said her body was in his car.

Court documents say Richards admitted to stabbing her many times, but said he did so in self-defense when she was kicking and hitting him and threatening to shoot him.

The woman has been identified as 24-year-old Biftu Dadi.

Richards said he had known Dadi for a week and that they had a romantic relationship. He told police he had taken drugs the evening before she died.

Richards was charged Wednesday. His bail has been set at $2 million.
