WASHINGTON — The District of Columbia will begin deploying about 200 plows by noon Friday based on weather reports that call for up to half an inch of snow before midnight.

The city said in a statement that pre-treatment was to begin Thursday night and continue until snow begins to fall. Officials asked motorists to drive cautiously and, if possible, take public transportation instead of driving.

Residents and business owners were also being asked to apply de-icer, salt and non-clumping kitty litter to the sidewalks around their properties to reduce the possibility of icing.
