Police seize explosives, weapons from Jonesville home; man arrested


JONESVILLE, Louisiana — The Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office found explosives, automatic weapons and suspected marijuana after a weeklong search of the home of a Jonesville man last month.

Wade Rasberry, resident agent in charge for federal bureau Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Shreveport, tells The Town Talk reports ( ) 55-year-old Bill Wesley Womack is charged with possession of an unregulated destructive device and possession of a machine gun.

AFT agents picked Womack up from the parish jail this week.

Rasberry says the federal investigation is ongoing. The case is going a grand jury in Shreveport on Sept. 24.

Catahoula Parish deputies went to Womack's home Aug. 25 after being told the man had set off an explosive in his wife's car. Chief Deputy Toney Edwards said deputies found an explosive had been detonated inside the vehicle and arrested Womack.

The parish has charged Womack with possession of explosives and carrying a concealed weapon.

Edwards said Womack told deputies there were more explosives at his shop on U.S. Highway 84.

Edwards said the FBI, the ATF and other agencies found a stash of ready-made explosive devices, automatic weapons, ammunition, ingredients for explosives, suspected marijuana and several thousands of dollars in cash.

Edwards said no one was harmed. He said the explosives were disarmed and X-rayed. Some were detonated on scene in a safe environment, Edwards said.
