HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — The trial of a Hattiesburg man charged in a 2014 shooting death begins Tuesday.

Ray Allen Thompson is accused of the April 27 shooting death of 38-year-old Oliver Griffin at Hattiesburg apartment complex.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/20lmhXl) police responding to a report of gunshots fired found Griffin on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson, who had been working as a courtesy officer at the apartment complex, told police he had responded to a domestic dispute that involved Griffin. The incident wound up in the parking lot, where Griffin was shot and killed.

Thompson was charged with second-degree murder.

He was booked into the Forrest County Jail, but was released April 28 on a $50,000 bond.
