Deputies: Car hits, kills 2 crossing road in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, Florida — Broward Sheriff's deputies say a man and woman died after being hit by a car as they crossed North Ocean Drive in Deerfield Beach.

The crash happened Wednesday night.

Deputies say 85-year-old Philip Kendall and 80-year-old Francine Freedman had just moved into their beachside neighborhood a few days earlier.

Investigators say a man driving the Lexus that hit the pair stayed at the scene.

According to deputies, Freedman died at the scene. Kendall was taken to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was 64-year-old Mark Lasman, also of Boca Raton. He remained at the scene after the crash. Traffic homicide detectives are investigating.
