Zachary Police: 2-year-old drowns in backyard pool; identity not released


ZACHARY, Louisiana — A 2-year-old child has drowned in a backyard pool after the child slipped outside without the mother noticing.

Zachary Police Chief David McDavid tells The Advocate ( ) the drowning happened Thursday morning. He says when the woman found her child in the pool, she ran to the front yard with the child in her arms screaming for help.

Arriving police tried to resuscitate the child, and paramedics took the child to a nearby hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

The apparent drowning happened at the home of the mother's parents. McDavid says she had been house-sitting for them while they were out of town.
