JACKSON, Mississippi — Court records say a former police chief in Mississippi is asking for a trial delay.
Former Mendenhall Police Chief Donald "Bruce" Barlow previously pleaded not guilty.
A court filing Wednesday said he was scheduled to have a change-of-plea hearing Friday in U.S. District Court in Jackson.
Then on Thursday, his lawyer asked to delay the trial, set for Dec. 2.
The latest filing says the lawyer needs more time to prepare, so it appears Barlow may have decided against pleading guilty.
Barlow's lawyer did not immediately respond to a message Thursday.
Barlow is charged with demanding money or property in exchange for dropping charges against people.
