COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says oil and natural gas production in the state continues to rise.

Statistics released by the department Monday show more than 4.4 million barrels of oil and 183 billion cubic feet of natural gas were produced during the first three months of the year. During the same quarter in 2014, Ohio wells produced nearly 2 million barrels of oil and 67 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

ODNR says Ohio oil production increased 24 percent from the fourth quarter of last year, when the state produced more than 3.5 million barrels of oil.

The report showed that out of 926 wells drilled in Ohio, 877 wells produced at least some oil or gas in the first quarter of the year.
