7 people injured in fire at apartment building in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD, Virginia — Seven people suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Chesterfield County.

Media outlets report that the injured included one person who jumped from a second-floor window on the second floor and two people who escaped through windows on the ground floor of the two-story building. Five people were taken to a hospital and two were treated at the scene.

The fire was reported around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Chesterfield Fire & EMS Lt. Jason Elmore says the fire's intensity forced firefighters out of the building. They brought the fire out of control from the outside.

The fire displaced 22 residents.
