WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating two incidents in which women were attacked and sexually assaulted while walking in different parts of the city.

Both assaults occurred on Sunday. Officer Paul Metcalf, a police spokesman, says there's no indication that they are related.

Metcalf says the first occurred in southeast Washington. A woman was sexually assaulted by a man armed with a handgun early Sunday.

Then, on Sunday night, a woman was sexually assaulted by two men in an alley off Georgia Avenue, Northwest. There was no indication that the assailants were armed.
