Authorities: NYC man charged in fatal NJ hit-and-run accident was driving drunk

HOBOKEN, New Jersey — Authorities say a New York City man was driving drunk when he struck and killed a 22-year-old pedestrian in northern New Jersey.

Twenty-two-year-old Luis Garcia of the Bronx was charged with death by auto and leaving the scene of an accident. His bail was set at $25,000.

The Jersey Journal (http://bit.ly/ZX8SYw) reports that the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in Hoboken. Garcia was driving on Patterson Plank Road when his car jumped the curb and hit 24-year-old Ron Hill II of Jersey City.

Authorities say Garcia tried to flee the scene, but he struck several cars a few blocks away and was captured by Hoboken police.

Hill was pronounced dead at the scene.
