DURANGO, Colorado — Schools in and around Durango are closed because of a storm that could bring over a foot of snow to southwestern Colorado.

The Durango Herald (http://bit.ly/1C2Oy83) reported that hundreds of people have also lost power in Tuesday's storm.

The National Weather Service says the heaviest snow will fall in the morning and will taper off by the afternoon. Gusts up to 25 mph are forecast.

Areas covered by the winter storm warning include Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride and Silverton.
