LONGVILLE, Louisiana — State police say three people are dead after a suspected impaired driver drove on the wrong side of a divided highway in Beauregard Parish and struck another vehicle head-on.

Sgt. James Anderson says the accident happen around 6:23 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 171 about 5 miles north of the community of Longville.

Anderson says a car being driven by Kristi B. Poteet was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 171 when the vehicle struck a car driven by Ricky Gill of Singer.

Anderson says Gill, Poteet, and a passenger in Poteet's car whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin were pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson says impairment on the part of Poteet is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
