Simi Valley council bans unattended donation bins

SIMI VALLEY, California — The Simi Valley City Council has voted to ban donation bins popping up on street corners and in parking lots around the city.

The Ventura County Star says (http://bit.ly/10lmlub) the ordinance adopted Monday night bans all unattended for-profit bins.

Critics say the bins often become overflowing eyesores.

Donation bins inside or outside nonprofits' facilities are allowed, as are unattended bins for recyclable items.

The newspaper reports the Salvation Army and Goodwill say the new law will not negatively affect them.

The ordinance will take effect in 31 days.
