Father now faces a murder charge after infant daughter dies


BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana — A man accused of critically injuring his infant daughter now faces a murder charge.

Bossier City Police spokesman Mark Natale says 27-year-old Sean Morton, of Bossier City, was arrested Saturday on a charge of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Natale says that charge was upgraded to second-degree murder after 3-month-old Malaysia Morton died Monday at University Health in Shreveport.

The Times reports ( ) Morton remains at Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility. Bond on the murder charge was set at $500,000.

Detectives arrested Morton after an investigation found he allegedly injured the child Friday night while trying to get the baby to stop crying. When he noticed something was wrong, Morton brought the baby to Willis-Knighton Bossier. Staff there contacted police.
