Flooding damages police department in Allen Park; high winds boost level of Saginaw Bay

ALLEN PARK, Michigan — Flooding has caused damage at the police department in the Detroit suburb of Allen Park.

Lt. Chris Egan tells WWJ-AM that the facility was soaked following weekend flooding and police in Wyandotte are temporarily handling dispatch calls for Allen Park.

Egan says the detective bureau is flooded, hallways are wet and the kitchen area has been rendered useless.

Heavy rain soaked parts of lower Michigan, causing flooding that closed part of one expressway for hours. The northbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway reopened Sunday in Dearborn, west of Detroit.

MLive.com reports strong winds Saturday night off of Lake Huron caused the Saginaw Bay to rise by about 5 feet. At the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, docks were underwater and lines to boats were stretched tight.
