Ogden officer killed in January 2012 bust to be added to national memorial in Washington

OGDEN, Utah — The name of an Ogden police officer killed in the line of duty last year is being added to a national memorial to fallen officers in Washington D.C.

Jared Francom's family plans to travel to the nation's capital for Wednesday's formal ceremony at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Francom was killed and five other officers injured in January 2012 when Matthew Stewart opened fire as they attempted to serve a warrant at Stewart's Ogden home.

Wednesday's ceremony is part of National Police Week.

Ogden police chief Mike Ashment tells the Deseret News (http://tinyurl.com/cr9vn4l ) it's the first time since 1963 that an officer from Ogden will be honored on the national memorial.
