LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — A Phillips County sheriff's deputy has been found dead in his patrol car — but authorities say foul play is not suspected.
Sheriff Neal Byrd says Deputy Robert Nearns (NERNZ) Sr. was found dead in his car early Tuesday morning. Byrd says the body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death, but he says a health issue is suspected.
Byrd says Nearns had been dispatched to investigate a burglary alarm about 4:30 a.m. — then failed to respond to a dispatcher and that officers who were sent to look for him found him dead in the car about six miles south of Marvell.
