Registration opens for Empire State Winter Games


LAKE PLACID, New York — Athlete registration for the 35th annual Empire State Winter Games is now open.

Organizers are asking competitors and teams to log on to to officially enter the winter sports festival. Over 1,400 athletes participated last winter.

The games will begin with a torch run Feb. 4-5 that ends at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, site of the Opening Ceremony and parade of athletes.

Competitors will gather at Herb Brooks Arena, where the keynote address will be given by 1994 United States figure skating Olympian Karen Courtland-Kelly of Lake Placid.

Competition starts Feb. 6 at all venues.
