Minor damage reported as Weather Service confirms 2 small tornadoes in southwest Missouri

LOCKWOOD, Missouri — The National Weather Service has confirmed two small tornadoes in southwest Missouri early Monday.

The touchdowns occurred shortly after midnight in Jasper County and neighboring Dade County. Only minor damage was reported.

The agency says a tornado touched down briefly around 12:05 a.m. about two miles east of Carthage, pulling down trees and power lines and destroying some outbuildings.

In Dade County, a small tornado touched down about 20 minutes later at a golf course on the west side of Lockwood. The twister damaged the roof of a grocery store and uprooted some trees. The Weather Service rated the tornado an EF1 with winds estimated at 80 mph.

Jasper and Dade were among more than three dozen in western and central Missouri placed under a tornado watch later Monday.
