Gulfport police investigate shooting that left man, 21, dead

GULFPORT, Mississippi — Gulfport police are investigating a shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1kWg7fj) Britton Owens died as a result of a head wound Monday at the William Bell Apartments.

Hargrove says police were called to the apartment complex and found Owens laying just inside the front door of a unit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Chief Leonard Papania said the shooting is under investigation and police are working closely with the Harrison County Coroner's Office and the District Attorney's Office.
