DeGrom allows 2 hits in 8 shutout innings, leads Mets over Giants 4-1

SAN FRANCISCO — All-Star allowed two hits over eight innings, hit a two-run homer and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 Wednesday to win consecutive road series for the first time this season.

also drove in a run for the Mets, who took advantage of an error by All-Star shortstop to break a 0-0 tie in the sixth.

DeGrom (9-6) allowed a double to in the third inning and a bloop single to in the fourth, then retired 13 consecutive batters. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, deGrom struck out 10 and walked one. He is 5-1 with a 1.09 ERA in day games.

Mets starting pitchers have allowed three or fewer hits in each of their last four starts.

The Mets are a big league-best 20-8 in day games.

TRAINER'S ROOM:

Mets: missed his second straight games because of a sore left knee, which has sidelined him in six of New York's last eight games.

Giants: was out of the lineup a second straight day with a tight hamstring.

UP NEXT:

Mets: (3-4) starts the series opener against Arizona on Friday night. He has given up one run or fewer in three of his last four starts.

Giants: All-Star (8-5, 3.34) starts against Philadelphia and fellow left-hander (5-6,) on Friday night.
