CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Authorities say an off-duty Charlotte police officer providing security at an apartment complex shot at several suspects after one of them pointed a gun at him.

A news release from the police department says no one was struck or hurt in the encounter around 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say officer Daniel Rosenberger was checking on a report of several people pulling door handles at apartments in south Charlotte when he found the five suspects.

Police say Rosenberger fired after seeing the gun. Police say the suspects did not fire back.

Internal affairs officers are investigating to see if Rosenberger followed police procedures. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
