PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Occupy Providence is planning a four-day "sidewalk occupation" to coincide with the Netroots Nation conference being staged in Rhode Island's capital.
Activists are planning to camp out on the sidewalk outside the Rhode Island Convention Center where the national conference of liberal political activists and bloggers is being held next month.
A Facebook posting about the event calls for participants to bring sleeping bags but not tents. It stresses that the so-called occupation is not permanent.
The group says it is protesting economic injustice.
Occupy Providence in October set up a 24-hour encampment in Burnside Park downtown against the city's wishes. It dismantled the camp more than three months later when the city met its demand of helping to open a temporary day shelter for the homeless.
