LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Arkansas Gov. on Wednesday named a retired car dealer to the independent panel that regulates hunting and fishing in the state.

Hutchinson named Joe Morgan, 71, of Little Rock, to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Republican governor's first appointment to the seven-member panel. Morgan was appointed to a seven-year term to replace Ron Duncan, whose term expired earlier this month.

"He brings a business mind as well as a love for the hunting and fishing culture in Arkansas," Hutchinson said at a news conference at the commission's headquarters.

Morgan, who was a car dealer for than 30 years, has served on the Arkansas Motor Vehicle Commission for 14 years, spending three of those years as chairman. His son, Brett, was appointed to a seven-year term on the Game and Fish Commission by former Gov. in 2003.

Morgan said he didn't have a specific initiative he plans to focus on while on the commission.

"I'm kind of life a kid in the candy store, so it's just a little bit of everything," Morgan said. "I'm tickled to death, and wherever the need is, I'm more than happy to help out."
