LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Gov. Mike Beebe has announced his intent to pardon three men and to commute the sentences of two others.
Beebe's office said Wednesday that he intends to pardon John Bamburg, Jr. of Fayetteville); Steve Spears of Sherwood; and Michael Loy of Caddo Valley. Bamburg and Spears were convicted of drug crimes and Loy of burglary, grand larceny and theft by receiving.
Each has completed all jail time, all parole-and-probationary requirements and paid all fines.
Beebe also plans to commute the life sentence of James Stanton of Tucker to 45 years and the 90 year sentence of Donald Strom of Calico Rock to 40 years. Both were convicted on drug-related charges.
There is a 30-day waiting period for public comment on the commutations and pardons before final action is taken.
