LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — The trial of a 23-year-old man accused of killing another man off La. Highway 27 in Carlyss in 2011 has been postponed until March 17.
The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/1hvnffu ) David Caleb Fontenot was scheduled to go to trial Monday on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder and solicitation for murder charges, but his defense attorney, Robert Shelton, requested the continuance because he only recently enrolled as counsel.
Shelton replaced Michael McHale as Fontenot's conflict attorney after McHale left the Public Defender's Office.
State District Judge Kent Savoie said Monday he will not grant any more continuances in the case.
Fontenot is accused of gunning down 20-year-old Stephin Bergeron in 2011.
Fontenot's co-defendant, Devin Badon, pleaded guilty in June to negligent homicide.
