Helena man charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend, causing life-threatening wounds


HELENA, Montana — A 33-year-old Helena man is charged with attempted deliberate homicide after his former girlfriend was stabbed several times, suffering a collapsed lung and neck injuries.

The Independent Record reports ( ) Jim Randolph Oliver made an initial appearance in District Court on Wednesday. His bail was maintained at $150,000 and his arraignment was set for May 21.

Prosecutors allege Oliver had been kicked out of the woman's house for drug use, but used a key he kept to enter the house late on March 21. The woman said when she went to investigate a noise in her living room Oliver stabbed and strangled her. The woman's father said he hit Oliver in the head with a pool cue and chased him off.

Oliver told investigators the woman had invited him to the house and he was attacked by two men.
