LANCASTER, Pennsylvania — A higher court has rejected the appeal of a central Pennsylvania man serving a life term in the slaying of his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child.

LNP newspapers (http://bit.ly/1Agjksi ) reports that the Pennsylvania Superior Court on Wednesday turned down the appeal of 25-year-old Matthew Becker.

Becker was convicted of first-degree murder in Lancaster County in the August 2011 shooting death of 21-year-old Allison Walsh in their Mastersonville home.

He was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole after jurors deadlocked on whether he should be executed.

Defense attorneys argued that a newly purchased handgun went off while the defendant was showing it to the victim.

In his appeal, Becker took issue with some of the evidence and testimony presented, including evidence of prior abuse.
